This book provides a novel, strategic solution to where China will go in the coming decades, utilising the common interest shared by Chinese people and people from other countries to realize the common dream of all of mankind. It investigates the scientification of China, Chinese words, the Chinese language, and Chinese culture based on 10 scientific paradigms. Scientific Chinese words, scientific Chinese language and scientific Chinese culture form what is termed here as 'the scientific Chinese trinity', which will create a scientific China in the near future and facilitate the scientification of Chinese society and the development of the digital economy. The book will serve to convey to students, scholars, professionals, managers and practitioners the status of the evolution of Chinese culture and civilization.

In recent years, we have witnessed an explosive growth in multimediacomputing, communication and applications. This revolution istransforming the way people live, work and interact with each other, and is impacting the way business, government services, education, entertainment and health care operate. This important book summarizes recent research topics, focusing onfour major areas: (1) intelligent content-based information retrievaland virtual world, (2) quality-of-services of multimedia data, (3)intelligent techniques for distance education, and (4) intelligentagents for e-commerce.

This book exclusively surveys the active on-going research of the current maturity of fuzzy logic over the last four decades. Many world leaders of fuzzy logic have enthusiastically contributed their best research results into five theoretical, philosophical and fundamental sub areas and nine distinctive applications, including two PhD dissertations from two world class universities dealing with cutting-edge research areas of bioinformatics and geological science. Beyond the scope of survey and collection of the book, one important spin off is the emerging and recognition of a major scientific paradigm shift from the conventional mathematics to the mathematics of uncertainty, which arguably holds the key to solving very difficult and complex problems in biological and social sciences alike. The book, loaded with historical perspective, creative thinking, critical reviewing, and uniquely constructed strategy for future growth of this dynamic research area, is an invaluable resource for active researchers at all levels, university administrators, foundation directors, funding agency program chiefs, research & development planners and technological assessors.

Computational intelligence (CI), as an alternative to statistical and econometric approaches, has been applied to a wide range of economics and finance problems in recent years, for example to price forecasting and market efficiency. This book contains research ranging from applications in financial markets and business administration to various economics problems. Not only are empirical studies utilizing various CI algorithms presented, but so also are theoretical models based on computational methods. In addition to direct applications of computational intelligence, readers can also observe how these methods are combined with conventional analytical methods such as statistical and econometric models to yield preferred results. Chen, Wang, and Kuo have grouped the 12 contributions following their introductory chapter into applications of fuzzy logic, neural networks (including self-organizing maps and support vector machines), and evolutionary computation. All chapters were selected either by invitation or based on a careful selection and extension of best papers from the International Workshop on Computational Intelligence in Economics and Finance in 2005. Overall, the book offers researchers an excellent overview of current advances and applications of computational intelligence techniques to economics and finance problems.
