Min Wang’s book is a unique contribution to Chinese studies. Starting with a detailed survey of dozens of histories of Chinese literature authored in the past century by Chinese, Japanese, and Western scholars, she applies a highly sophisticated analysis to what she calls “literary historiography.” She proceeds in the bulk of the book to a close consideration of Stephen Owen’s particular innovations in this field, focusing on an abundance of specific textual examples. This book sets a new standard for literary meta-history in Sinology. Paul W. Kroll Professor of Chinese University of Colorado Paul W. Kroll Professor of Chinese University of Colorado.

An important contribution to the multi-disciplinary study of literacy, narrative and culture, this work argues that literacy is perhaps best described as an ensemble of socially and historically embedded activities of cultural practices. It suggests viewing written language, producing and distributing, deciphering and interpreting signs, are closely related to other cultural practices such as narrative and painting. The papers of the first and second parts illustrate this view in contexts that range from the pre-historical beginnings of tracking signs' in hunter-gatherer cultu

This book focuses on the construction of remote islands and reefs in the Maritime Silk Road. Firstly, it analyzes the functions, necessity and difficulties of the construction of remote islands and reefs; then provides corresponding countermeasures. According to the urgent demand of electricity and freshwater, it focus on wave and offshore wind energy evaluation of the important remote islands and reefs of the Maritime Silk Road, providing reference for the choice of location of power plants, daily operation and long term plan of wave/wind power generation. Several important key points are selected in the case study to realize their electricity and freshwater self-sufficiency and thus to improve their viability. This book also presents the marine characteristics (especially hazardous elements) under the demands of island runway construction and marine new energy development, to promote safe and efficient implementation of the remote islands and reefs construction. This book is one of the series of publications on the 21st Century Maritime Silk Road (shortened as “Maritime Silk Road”). It covers the characteristics of the marine environment and marine new energy, remote islands and reefs construction, climate change, early warning of wave disasters, legal escort, marine environment and energy big data construction, etc. contributing to the safe and efficient construction of the Maritime Silk Road. It aims to improve our knowledge of the ocean, thus to improve the capacity for marine construction, enhance the viability of remote islands and reefs, ease the energy crisis and protect the ecological environment, improve the quality of life of residents along the Maritime Silk Road, and protect the rights, interests of the countries and regions participating in the construction of the Maritime Silk Road. It will be a valuable reference for decision-makers, researchers, and marine engineers working in the related fields.

This book focuses on the theory of and design methods for guidance, navigation, and control (GNC) in the context of spacecraft rendezvous and docking (RVD). The position and attitude dynamics and kinematics equations for RVD are presented systematically and in accordance with several different coordinate systems, including elliptical orbital frame, and recommendations are supplied on which of these equations to use in different phases of RVD. The book subsequently explains the basic principles and relative navigation algorithms of RVD sensors such as GNSS, radar, and camera-type RVD sensors. It also provides guidance algorithms and schemes for different phases of RVD, including the latest research advances in rapid RVD. In turn, the book presents a detailed introduction to intelligent adaptive control and proposes corresponding theoretical approaches to thruster configuration and control allocation for RVD. Emphasis is placed on the design method of active and passive trajectory protection in different phases of RVD, and on the safety design of the RVD mission as a whole. For purposes of verification, the Shenzhou spacecraft's in-orbit flight mission is presented as well. All issues addressed are described and explained from basic principles to detailed engineering methods and examples, providing aerospace engineers and students both a basic understanding of, and numerous practical engineering methods for, GNC system design in RVD. .

This book provides a historical analysis of the avant-garde art movement in China in the 1980s. This art movement is the product of China's reform and opening up, during which time a small number of Chinese artists understood the western modernist art movement, and they started their avant-garde art experiment in combination with the actual situation of China. This avant-garde art experiment completely broke all the artistic styles in Chinese history, and it caused a huge shock. After about a decade of radical attempts, it began to form its own position in China. This book discusses its birth background, its dominant artists and works, its theme and interest, and its final decline. This is not only a work of art history, but also a work of cultural history with strong sociological analysis. This book is beautiful in writing, detailed in analysis and highly readable. It is a very suitable book for those who want to know avant-garde art and Chinese since the 1980s. Min'an Wang, professor of Tsinghua University, mainly engaged in critical theory, cultural studies, modern art and literature, author of Roland Barthes,The Limits of Michel Foucault, Friedrich Nictzsche and Body, etc. Xiaoping Song, associate professor at University of International Business and Economics, mainly engaged in literary research and literary criticism, author of The Field of Women's Writings and Desire.
