This thesis describes the process and execution of my internship assignment at Janssen Pharmaceutica. On a daily basis the lab assistants of Janssen Pharmaceutica do research to discover new drugs. The results of these tests need to be analyzed and studied. The software PHAEDRA was created a few years ago to accommodate just that. This software is unique in the world and custom tailored to the needs of the lab assistants. The techniques used by the lab assistants change often so new software to support this was required, that is where my internship assignment comes in. For a technique called flow cytometry, alongside others, I developed new functionalities within existing software to make it possible to collect and analyze the data of this research technique. I started with the existing software KNIME, which provides a step-by-step workflow for treating data. These steps are called nodes, pieces of code represented graphically by colourful blocks that you can connect to create a complete process for the data to run through. Within KNIME I developed new, custom made nodes in function of the needs of the lab assistants, so that they are able to display, validate and analyze their test results and even generate reports. In this thesis you will find more information about how my nodes can help the company that offered me this internship and how I developed these nodes.
