Abstract

This text is designed to be a concise guide to the essentials of total knee arthroplasty and revision total knee arthroplasty. Edited by Drs. Giles R. Scuderi and Alfred J. Tria, Jr., the text is ideal for orthopedic residents and surgeons. World-renowned experts cover basic principles and instrumentation, ligament releases, and bone defects. Fixation in total knee arthroplasty, both with cement and cementless, is considered. Complex topics regarding revision arthroplasty are detailed as well, including three-step technique, constrained total knee designs, and two-stage reimplantation for infected total knee arthroplasty. Revision of periprosthetic femur fractures and tibial periprosthetic fractures is also addressed. By highlighting key topics in total knee arthroplasty, this practical book is an invaluable reference to have on hand.

Abstract

Now revised and expanded into a major reference work, Scuderi and Tria bring together leaders in the field for this update of their classic 2010 text on minimally invasive surgery in orthopedics. Organized anatomically, each section has been reviewed and revised with the most current information and techniques, both common and complex. An entirely new section on analgesics and anesthesia is included, and the former section on the upper extremities is split into three distinct sections on the shoulder, elbow, and hand, respectively, for a more in-depth presentation of these areas. Subsequent sections on the hip, knee, foot and ankle, and spine are similarly reinforced with the state-of-the-art for each region. The final section is reworked to include not only computer navigation strategies but other innovative technologies in MIS as well. Now, as then, this is the go-to reference for orthopedic surgeons, residents and fellows seeking a practical understanding of minimally invasive techniques in orthopedics. .

Abstract

This is a new and exciting period in orthopedic surgery. Times are cha- ing,and we are developing techniques to perform joint arthroplasty through smaller and smaller incisions in an effort to reduce the amount of int- operative trauma and expedite the path to recovery. Minimally invasive surgery (MIS) leads to shorter hospital stays with quicker recoveries. The procedures may eventually be performed on an outpatient basis with an earlier return to daily activities and work. We have asked the leading world authorities in this ?eld of orthopaedics to contribute their ideas on these new techniques. Because so much of the technology is new, the authors cannot present signi?cant long-term foll- up. However, with their cooperation, we can present the most current knowledge about the ef?cacy of MIS. Thomas P. Sculco,Mark A. Hartzband, and Richard A. Berger have summarized their early experiences with m- imally invasive surgical total hip arthroplasty in a succinct manner. Paolo Aglietti, Jean-Noël A. Argenson, and David W. Murray have provided - depth impressions of the European experience with unicondylar knee arthroplasty. John A. Repicci, a pioneer in MIS knee surgery, presents his experience with unicondylar knee arthroplasty. Finally,Thomas M. Coon adds his own experience to give a glimpse into the future of MIS total knee arthroplasty. We are grateful to all of the authors and contributors to this text for their time and consideration. It is our hope that this work will be the foundation for the future of MIS total hip and knee arthroplasty.

Abstract

The growth of minimally invasive surgery (MIS) in orthopedics has been dramatic worldwide, as clinical results indicate that patients who undergo MIS procedures typically experience minimized blood loss, smaller incision scars, shorter hospital stays and quicker rehabilitation. Minimally Invasive Surgery in Orthopedics serves as the single-source reference in the field, compiled by recognized authorities and filled with information about even the most challenging MIS techniques. The book is divided into sections that focus on the shoulder and elbow, the hip, the knee, the foot and ankle, the spine, as well as computer navigation, and each section is heavily illustrated and clearly written for ease of understanding. Orthopedic surgeons, residents, and fellows who want to truly understand MIS will find this thorough text invaluable.

Abstract

This book covers all the basics of the knee for practicing orthopedic surgeons and residents who are finishing their training and preparing for the board examinations. The text begins with chapters on the anatomy, physical examinations, and imaging, before proceeding on to pediatric considerations, arthroscopic techniques, ligament injuries, trauma, reconstructions, and the future of knee replacement surgery. There are many textbooks on the knee but no recent one has addressed the entire area of the knee from start to finish.
