Long description: Seit der Veröffentlichung von Thomas Morus’ Utopia vor über 500 Jahren sind zahlreiche literarische Werke erschienen, die eine bessere Welt entwerfen. Im Film scheint die positive Utopie dagegen inexistent. Die bisherige Forschung konzentrierte sich fast ausschließlich auf dystopische Spielfilme, da positive Szenarien den Anforderungen des Mediums angeblich zuwiderlaufen. Bilder einer besseren Welt wählt einen anderen Ansatz und nimmt, ausgehend von der Erkenntnis, dass auch literarische Utopien primär als Reaktionen auf eine missliche Gegenwart und nicht als unterhaltende Erzählungen gedacht sind, mit dem Dokumentar- und Propagandafilm einen bisher kaum erforschten Bereich in den Fokus. Die als Grundlagenwerk angelegte Studie baut auf aktuellen Erkenntnissen der Utopie- und Dokumentarfilmforschung auf und behandelt ein historisch und thematisch weit gefasstes Filmkorpus. Zu den untersuchten Werken gehören zionistische Propagandafilme, filmische Stadtutopien, sozialistische Zukunftsfilme sowie Web-Videos der Terrororganisation Islamischer Staat.

Since the publication of Thomas More's Utopia more than 500 years ago, countless books have been written which describe a better world. But in film, positive utopias seem to be nonexistent. So far, research has focused almost exclusively on dystopias, since positive outlooks seem to run contrary to the media's requirement. Utopias in Nonfiction Film takes a new approach; starting from the insight that literary utopias are first and foremost meant as a reaction to the ills of the present and not as entertaining stories, it looks at documentary and propaganda films, an area which so far has been completely ignored by research. Combining insights from documentary research and utopian studies, a vast and very diverse corpus of films is analysed. Among them are Zionist propaganda films, cinematic city utopias, socialist films of the future as well as web videos produced by the Islamist terrorist group ISIS.

The testing phase of Boxbay in Dubai has been completed, marking the beginning of its global expansion into new projects like Busan in South Korea, and Canada. Therefore, this research explores the potential implementation of Boxbay and its benefits for the port of Antwerp, with the aim of tackling the challenges associated with limited space and reshuffling in container terminals. Through an analysis of a semi-structured interview, the results shed light on the critical perspective regarding the operational performance of Boxbay and the numerous challenges it still presents. In conclusion, Boxbay will remain a new way of thinking in the port of Antwerp until further insights are gained from ongoing projects in South Korea and Canada.
