The Proceedings of the IX Congress of the International Society of Italian Linguistics and Philology (SILFI), "Perspectives in the study of the Italian lexicon" (Florence, June 14-17, 2006), include 88 contributions by Italian and foreign scholars. The twelve sections into which they are divided indicate as many study perspectives, testifying to the vitality of the great tradition of Italian speech studies. The Congress confirms the importance of tradition but also shows how new fields of study, concerning the use of IT infrastructures for the acquisition and conservation of linguistic heritage, are now central to both research and the establishment of essential resources for defence and promotion of our language.
