Die Studie bietet eine umfangreiche Korpusanalyse von direktiven und manipulativen Matrixprädikaten des Deutschen, deren Komplemente zwischen finiten und infiniten Sätzen variieren. In synchroner Sicht sind die unterschiedlichen Varianten des Komplementsatzes zwar grundsätzlich synonym, ihre Verteilungsmuster werden aber wesentlich von konzeptuell-semantischen, gebrauchsorientierten und psycholinguistischen Faktoren beeinflusst. In der diachronen Perspektive zeigt sich, dass einige auf den ersten Blick voneinander unabhängige Entwicklungslinien Interdependenzen aufweisen und auf einen gemeinsamen Entwicklungsprozess hindeuten. Für den dass-Satz und für den zu-Infinitiv wird jeweils eine Entwicklungslinie rekonstruiert, die sich von den traditionellen Ansichten in einigen wichtigen Aspekten unterscheidet.

This book presents a selection of contributions to the workshop "Linguistic realization of evidentiality in European languages", held at the 30th Annual Convention of the German Society of Linguistics in Bamberg (February 27-29, 2008), and additional papers, which have been especially commissioned for this volume. Its main focus lies on providing further empirical evidence about languages that have various - lexical as well as grammatical - evidential expressions. The papers in this volume will offer a cross-linguistic perspective on this topic as they deal with a number of different language families and languages: Romance languages (French, Spanish, Italian), Germanic languages (Dutch, German, English, Icelandic), Baltic and Slavic languages, Greek, Basque, and Turkish.

"This volume brings together ten contributions by leading experts who present their current usage-based research in Diachronic Construction Grammar. All papers contribute to the discussion of how to conceptualize constructional networks best and how to model changes in the constructicon, as for example node creation or loss, node-external reconfiguration of the network or in/decrease in productivity and schematicity. The authors discuss the theoretical status of allostructions, homostructions, constructional families and constructional paradigms. The terminological distinction between constructionalization and constructional change is revisited. It is shown how constructional competition but also general cognitive abilities like analogical thinking and schematization relate to the structure and reorganization of the constructional network. Most contributions focus on the nature of vertical and horizontal links. Finally, it is also being discussed how existing network models should be enriched or reconceptualized in order to integrate theoretical, psychological and neurological aspects missing so far"--
