Abstract

With this book, Onn Shehory and Arnon Sturm, together with further contributors, introduce the reader to various facets of agent-oriented software engineering (AOSE). They provide a selected collection of state-of-the-art findings, which combines research from information systems, artificial intelligence, distributed systems, and software engineering and covers essential development aspects of agent-based systems. The book chapters are organized into five parts. The first part introduces the AOSE domain in general, including introduction to agents and the peculiarities of software engineering for developing MAS. The second part describes general aspects of AOSE, like architectural models, design patterns, and communication. Next, part three discusses AOSE methodologies and associated research directions, and elaborates on Prometheus, O-MaSE, and INGENIAS. Part four then addresses agent-oriented programming languages. Finally, the fifth part presents studies related to the implementation of agents and multi-agent systems. The book not only provides a comprehensive review of design approaches for specifying agent-based systems, but also covers implementation aspects such as communication, standards, and tools and environments for developing agent-based systems. It is thus of interest to researchers, practitioners, and students who are interested in exploring the agent paradigm for developing software systems.

Abstract

Thedesignandanalysisoftradingagentsandelectronictradingsystemsinwhich they are deployed involve ?nding solutions to a diverse set of problems, invo- ing individual behaviors, interaction, and collective behavior in the context of trade. A wide variety of trading scenarios and systems, and agent approaches to these, have been studied in recent years. The present volume includes a number of papers that were presented as part of the Joint International Workshop on Trading Agent Design and Analysis and Agent-Mediated Electronic Commerce which was collocated with the Autonomous Agents and Multi-agent Systems (AAMAS) Conference in Hakodate, Japan, in May 2006. The Joint TADA/AMEC Workshop brought together the two successful and well-established events of the Trading Agent Design and Analysis (TADA) and Agent-Mediated Electronic Commerce (AMEC) Workshops. The TADA series of workshops serves as a forum for presenting work on trading agent design and technologies, theoretical and empirical evaluation of strategies in complex trading scenarios as well as mechanism design. TADA also serves as the main forum for the Trading Agent Competition (TAC) research community. TAC is an annual tournament whose purpose is to stimulate research in trading agents and market mechanisms by providing a platform for agents competing in we- de?ned market scenarios (http://www. sics. se/tac). The AMEC series of wo- shops presents interdisciplinary researchon both theoretical and practical issues of agent-mediated electronic commerce ranging from the design of electronic marketplaces and e?cient protocols to behavioral aspects of agents operating in suchenvironments.

Abstract

This volume contains 11 thoroughly refereed and revised papers detailing recent advances in research on designing trading agents and mechanisms for agent-mediated e-commerce. They were originally presented at the Joint Workshop on Trading Agent Design and Analysis (TADA 2012) and Agent-Mediated Electronic Commerce (AMEC 2012) co-located with AAMAS 2012 in Valencia, Spain, in June 2012. The increasing reliance on software agents has created a range of pressing new research challenges, including the design of appropriate agent decision algorithms, approaches for predicting the complex behaviors and interactions of multiple agents, including the computation of equilibria, and the engineering of protocols and mechanisms that ensure electronic markets behave in a stable manner or fulfill other desirable criteria. Drawing upon a diverse range of scientific disciplines, including computer science, economics, artificial intelligence, operations research and game theory, the papers collected in this volume represent a cross-section of recent research and cover topics such as strategies for individual trading agents, the design of markets and interaction protocols between agents, and a variety of applications.

Abstract

These are the proceedings of the Sixth International Workshop on Cooperative Information Agents (CIA 2002), held at the Universidad de Rey Juan Carlos in Madrid, Spain, September 18–20, 2002. It was colocated with the Third Int- national Workshop on Engineering Societies in the Agents World (ESAW 2002). Since 1997 the annual CIA workshop series has aimed to provide an open forum for all parties interested in the research and development of intelligent infor- tion agents for the Internet and Web. Each event in this renowned series attempts to capture the intrinsic interdisciplinary nature of this research area by calling for contributions from di?erent research communities, and by promoting open and informative discussions on all related topics. In keeping with its tradition, this year’s workshop featured a sequence of regular and invited talks of excellence given by leading experts in the ?elds related to information agent technology. These talks covered a broad area of topics of - terest, such as information agents for mobile computing environments as well as information gathering, exchange, management, and collaborative recommender systems. Other topics included agent interaction and communication, negot- tion strategies for purchasing relevant information, and agent-based distributed knowledge management.
