Abstract

Operations Research and Cyber-Infrastructure is the companion volume to the Eleventh INFORMS Computing Society Conference (ICS 2009), held in Charleston, South Carolina, from January 11 to 13, 2009. It includes 24 high-quality refereed research papers. As always, the focus of interest for ICS is the interface between Operations Research and Computer Science, and the papers in this volume reflect that interest. This is naturally an evolving area as computational power increases rapidly while decreasing in cost even more quickly. The papers included here illustrate the wide range of topics at this interface. For convenience, they are grouped in broad categories and subcategories. There are three papers on modeling, reflecting the impact of recent development in computing on that area. Eight papers are on optimization (three on integer programming, two on heuristics, and three on general topics, of which two involve stochastic/probabilistic processes). Finally, there are thirteen papers on applications (three on the conference theme of cyber-infrastructure, four on routing, and six on other interesting topics). Several of the papers could be classified in more than one way, reflecting the interactions between these topic areas. About the Editors John W. Chinneck is a professor in the Department of Systems and Computer Engineering at Carleton University, Ottawa, Canada. He is the Editor-in-Chief of the INFORMS Journal of Computing; a member of the editorial board of Computational Management Science; and Past Chair of the INFORMS Computing Society. Bjarni Kristjansson is the founder of Maximal Software, a leading worldwide provider of software for developing and formulating models in the field of optimization. Matthew Saltzman is an Associate Professor of Mathematical Sciences at Clemson University, Clemson, South Carolina. His research areas of interest are in Computational Operations Research and Mathematical Programming.

Abstract

India is becoming the "global back office" to international supply chains, creating a substantial communications and decision-support infrastructure for large and small enterprises in the global market place to utilize these resources. Decision Support for Global Enterprises consists of peer-reviewed and invited papers with two primary goals: (1) Stimulate creative discussion between academic researchers and the practitioner IS community to improve the research and practice in the area. (2) Increase awareness of the problems and challenges faced by global enterprises that can be met with innovative decision support systems. Limitations are also explored, covering the following topics: (1) the emerging enterprise decision making processes and technologies; (2) decision making in uncertain, changing conditions; (3) the changing infrastructure in organizations and society; (4) the expanding role of web technologies; and (5) emerging theories and practices for managing knowledge and making decisions.

Abstract

"For courses in decision support systems, computerized decision-making tools, and management support systems. Market-leading guide to modern analytics, for better business decisionsAnalytics, Data Science, & Artificial Intelligence: Systems for Decision Support is the most comprehensive introduction to technologies collectively called analytics (or business analytics) and the fundamental methods, techniques, and software used to design and develop these systems. Students gain inspiration from examples of organizations that have employed analytics to make decisions, while leveraging the resources of a companion website. With six new chapters, the 11th edition marks a major reorganization reflecting a new focus - analytics and its enabling technologies, including AI, machine-learning, robotics, chatbots, and IoT. Give students anytime, anywhere access with Pearson eText. Pearson eText is a simple-to-use, mobile-optimized, personalized reading experience available within MyLab. It lets students highlight, take notes, and review key vocabulary all in one place - even when offline. Seamlessly integrated videos and other rich media engage students and give them access to the help they need, when they need it. Educators can easily share their own notes with students so they see the connection between their eText and what they learn in class." [Publisher]

Abstract

This is the first book of its kind to solely focus on silicon containing dendritic polymers. The contributions of those experts who either originally introduced each field or who played a major role in its progress are reported. The developments in each of the major areas of this field are presented from their origins to the present. Each chapter is held to the highest scientific standards. Hence, it is anticipated that this text will become an invaluable guide and vanguard of reference for experienced scientists interested in the fields of polymer and material science, synthetic chemistry, and nanotechnology. It will also serve advanced graduate students either as a source of creative inspiration or as a textbook for appropriate courses.
