In deze studie wordt het aandeel van vrouwen in leidinggevende functies binnen het onderwijs onderzocht. Ondanks het feit dat er veel vrouwen in het onderwijs werken, zien we dat de doorstroom naar hogere functies niet zo vlot verloopt. In het eerste deel wordt in een kort historisch overzicht de situatie van vrouwelijke leidinggevenden van in de 19e eeuw tot nu geschetst. Een aantal pioniers worden belicht. Het verschil in carrièreverloop tussen mannelijke en vrouwelijke leidinggevenden komt in het tweede deel aan bod. Het laatste deel gaat over de manier waarop vrouwen leiding geven en over hun aandeel in de schoolcultuur.
