The book focuses on responsible living as the individual’s contribution to sustainable development. We believe that sustainable development can only be achieved if individual freedom and responsibilities are balanced on a high level while taking social, ecological and economic needs into account. A crucial element to achieve this is to integrate different perspectives of stakeholders and co-create a joined approach through partnerships. While partnerships develop new opportunities for the stakeholders involved they also require a readiness for mutual understanding, respect and courage to co-create.

Aktuelle fachwissenschaftliche und -didaktische Ansätze sowie Ideen für die Neugestaltung des Schul- und Studienfachs Arbeitslehre stehen im Mittelpunkt des Sammelbandes. Wissenschaft, Technik und Arbeitswelt haben sich ebenso verändert wie das Berufswahlverhalten von Jugendlichen. Mit Blick auf diesen Wandel erörtern die Autor:innen Neuausrichtungen von Curricula und Didaktik der Fächer Arbeitslehre und Berufsorientierung. Die Beträge machen deutlich, dass die Förderung von Berufswahlkompetenz und Berufsorientierung höchste Priorität in einem Schulfach haben, das junge Menschen auf den Übergang von der Schule in die Ausbildung vorbereiten soll. Die Beiträge des Sammelbandes decken daher ein breites Themenspektrum ab, von der gendersensiblen Berufsorientierung über die Einführung von Arbeitslehre in die gymnasiale Oberstufe bis zur Vorbereitung Lehramtsstudierender auf die Gestaltung des Übergangs Schule-Beruf. Der Sammelband entstand im Kontext der Fachtagung Arbeitslehre auf den Hochschultagen Berufliche Bildung.
