The goal of this Special Issue, “Probiotics and Prebiotics in Pediatrics”, is to focus on the importance of pediatric nutrition with probiotics and prebiotics to improve gastrointestinal health in newborn, infants, and children.Specifically, the aim is to clarify if probiotics and prebiotics can influence gut microbiota composition and host-interaction favoring human health and preventing diseases.This new information will provide health care professionals with a widespread, clear and update evidence on probiotics and prebiotics and intestinal gut microbiota in pediatric care.

La nutrizione artificiale in età pediatrica ha contribuito a modificare in modo sostanziale l’outcome e lo stato nutrizionale in numerose condizioni patologiche acute e croniche causa di malnutrizione. Questo volume, che si propone come guida pratica per l’utilizzo della nutrizione parenterale in pediatria in ambito ospedaliero, ha lo scopo di presentarne i principi e di descriverne gli aspetti pratici: vengono infatti trattati nei vari capitoli i fabbisogni energetici e nutrizionali, la composizione delle miscele nutrizionali, le indicazioni alla nutrizione parenterale, il monitoraggio clinico dei pazienti e le potenziali complicanze della procedura. Il libro può quindi rappresentare un utile strumento di lavoro non solo per medici pediatri, ma anche per il personale infermieristico e per i farmacisti ospedalieri nella loro attività quotidiana. .

L'anafilassi è definita come una reazione immediata sistemica dovuta al rapido rilascio IgE mediato di potenti mediatori dai mastociti tissutali e dai basofili del sangue periferico e rappresenta una condizione clinica generalizzata che include segni e sintomi cutanei, respiratori, cardiovascolari e gastrointestinali. Comprende svariati quadri clinici, che derivano dall'associarsi di sintomi come orticaria, angioedema, vomito, diarrea, asma, dispnea, edema della glottide, ipotensione, shock, ecc, non sempre di facile identificazione, che richiedono tuttavia un approccio diagnostico tempestivo e corretto. Scopo del volume, corredato di figure e tabelle esplicative degli argomenti trattati, è di fornire approfondimenti utili a chiarire l'eziopatogenesi dell'anafilassi e soprattutto ad attuare un corretto approccio clinico per la diagnosi e la terapia, con particolare riguardo alla corretta prescrizione e somministrazione di adrenalina.
