Le texte livresque est mon foyer... Ce foyer est aujourd'hui aussi démodé que la maison où je suis né, alors que quelques lampes à incandescence commençaient à remplacer les bougies. Un bulldozer se cache dans tout ordinateur, qui promet d'ouvrir des voies nouvelles aux données, substitutions, transformations, ainsi qu'à leur impression instantanée.[... ] Comme les signaux d'un vaisseau fantôme, les chaînes numériques forment sur l'écran des caractères arbitraires, fantômes, qui apparaissent, puis s'évanouissent. De moins en moins de gens viennent au livre comme au port du sens. Bien sûr, il en conduit encore certains à l'émerveillement et à la joie, ou bien au trouble et à la tristesse, mais pour d'autres, plus nombreux, je le crains, sa légitimité n'est guère plus que celle d'une métaphore pointant vers l'information...La lecture livresque a une origine historique, et il faut admettre aujourd'hui que sa survie est un devoir moral... ?
