After the political transformation in Eastern Europe, one can now look on an other transformation in these countries – the transformation of religion. In some countries a revitalization of religion occurs, in other countries the continuity of a secularization process have to be noticed. In den letzten Jahren hat die wissenschaftliche Beschäftigung mit Religion erheblich zugenommen. Sehr häufig fehlt den Forschenden jedoch das dafür notwendige methodische Rüstzeug. Hier will dieses Lehrbuch Abhilfe schaffen. Es führt ein in methodologische Prämissen und das praktische Vorgehen der etablierten sozialwissenschaftlichen Methoden und bezieht sie auf spezielle Gegebenheiten der Religion als Forschungsgegenstand. Der Forschungsprozess und ein breites Spektrum an Methoden der qualitativen wie der quantitativen Sozialforschung werden knapp vorgestellt sowie anhand beispielhafter Studien illustriert und erklärt. Dr. Kornelia Sammet vertritt seit 2012 die Professur Qualitative Methoden der empirischen Sozialforschung an der Fakultät für Soziologie der Universität Bielefeld.
