In the English teacher training program, it is expected that you read some young adult novels. In class, these novels are discussed and analysed. Examining and talking about the books in class is called a reading club. The books are not chosen randomly, they are carefully selected based on theme, genre and what they can teach young adults. However, the books that are currently used for the reading clubs are not recent anymore. That is why it was time for something new. It was my task for this bachelor dissertation to select some recently published books and create new reading clubs for the students of BASO English. I chose this topic because in my free time, I spend a lot of time reading. I always like discovering new authors and exploring new genres. This bachelor dissertation was therefore definitely up my alley. Looking up recently published books, making a choice out of all those novels and then reading a couple of them was the first step of this dissertation. After reading and analysing the novels, I chose two books that served as a base to create new reading clubs. One of these reading clubs was also carried out by me together with the first year students of English. All of these steps are written down in this bachelor dissertation, which I divided into three parts. In the first part I talk about the concept of a reading club. What is a reading club exactly? How is it composed? Which elements do you discuss in a reading club? What are the benefits of organising a reading club? Which books have I used? How did I select those books? All these questions are answered in chapter five of this bachelor dissertation. Next, I did a thorough analysis of the books that I have selected. This means that I have taken a closer look at the story, the characters and themes of the books. I focused on important elements such as time and space as well. While I was doing research about the novels, I also bumped into some reviews which I wanted to add to my paper. I ended each analysis with a personal review. The final chapters of this paper are all about the creation of new reading clubs. This part of the bachelor dissertation contains the lesson plans that I have composed to teach the reading clubs. During the reading clubs I have used a PowerPoint presentation and some extra worksheets and materials, these can also be found in this chapter. I have only taught one of the reading clubs that I have composed due to practical reasons, afterwards I have written a reflection report about this experience and I included that report in the final chapter as well.
