Rijk geïllustreerd en met essays die focussen op de brede waaier aan werkstrategieën van de kunstenaar, is Spilled Milk het eerste uitgebreide overzicht van het oeuvre dat Hilde Overbergh de voorbije acht jaar uitbouwde. De kunstenares was 19 jaar oud toen ze vanop de hoek van Bryant Street en 15th Street in San Francisco The Vats zag, een vervallen en verlaten plek, repetitieruimte en crashpand van de lokale punk scene. De energie intrigeerde haar. Al deze destructie en vrijheid werden de kiem van haar artistieke parcours. In haar vroege schilderijen zijn reeds afval- en gevonden materialen van stortplaatsen en bouwwerven te vinden. Later evolueerde haar kunstwerken verder weg van het canvas en worden ruimte en object belangrijker. Vandaag vertelt de wereld van Overbergh met verf, kleur en installaties verhalen over relaties, constructie en deconstructie. = Richly illustrated and with essays focusing on the artist’s wide range of working strategies, Spilled Milk presents the first comprehensive selection of work by Hilde Overbergh from the past eight years. When the artist was 19 years old, standing on the corner of Bryant street and 15th street in San Francisco, she took a view on The Vats, an abandoned building in complete decay, rehearsal space and crash pad to the local punk scene. The energy intrigued her. All this destruction and freedom was there for her to feed upon and to develop her artistic career. In her early large-scale paintings, she already included discarded and found materials from dumpsters and construction-sites. As her work developed the game with painting, objects and space became more apparent. Today Overbergh creates a world where paint, color and installations tell us stories about relations, construction and deconstruction.
