Everything, Always, Everywhere' is a book made in close collaboration with the artist Rafaël Rozendaal. Rozendaal's body of work is much broader than his well-known websites, and spans across different media; from the digital to physical and the textual. All these manifestations have one thing in common: they stem from a fascination with moving images and interactivity in its most basic form. The digital is the starting point for all Rozendaal's work, even his physical work stems from a digital way of thinking. 'Everything, Always, Everywhere', reflects on the change that his work has undergone in recent years; looking at both his own evolution as an artist, and the technological progress that has influenced digital art in general. How can the artist play with the ever-growing range of digital possibilities?

Digital technology has revolutionized the way we produce and experience art today. Not only have traditional forms of art such as printing, painting, photography and sculpture been transformed by digital techniques and media, but entirely new forms such as internet art, software art, digital installation and virtual reality have emerged as recognized artistic practices. Christiane Paul surveys the developments in digital art from its appearance in the 1980s to the present day and looks ahead to what the future may hold. Drawing a distinction between work that uses digital technology as a tool to produce traditional forms and work that uses it as a medium to create new types of art, she discusses the key artists and works. The book explores themes addressed and raised by these artworks, such as viewer interaction, artificial life and intelligence, political and social activism, networks and telepresence, and issues surrounding the collection, presentation and preservation of digital art. Les technologies numériques ont révolutionné la production et la réception de l'art. Non seulement les moyens d'expression traditionnels que sont la gravure, la peinture, la sculpture ou la photographie ont été profondément transformés par l'avènement du numérique mais d'autres formes radicalement nouvelles ont également vu le jour ; c'est le cas du Net art, du Software art, des installations numériques ou encore des manipulations de la réalité virtuelle, autant de pratiques désormais reconnues et soutenues par les plus grands musées, institutions et collectionneurs privés du monde entier. Dans cet ouvrage, Christiane Paul s'attache à décrire l'évolution de l'art numérique depuis son apparition dans les années 1980 et propose des pistes quant à son avenir.
