Recent developments in metabolic testing are reviewed in this extensive new survey. The metabolic profile test, widely used in veterinary medicine as a means of diagnosis for disease in animals, is a counterpoint to similar tests in human medicine. This book emphasizes the difference. For humans, individual abnormalities are important; in animals, the tests are applied on a group basis, as in herds or groups within herds. The test detects not only clinical and sub-clinical production disease but also indicates such things as lack of exercise, fertility, and limiting factors for growth.
