This book (the 2nd in our editorial series) presents a broad and multidisciplinary selection of essays that were presented at the UNICART International Conferences during the year 2020. The aim of this selection (with some revision, if necessary) is to provide a better framework to those scientific researches. The leitmotif of this collection is the sustainability of tourism, as well as those aspects that are increasingly related to this issue: food, health, culture, and other items. One of the most interesting developments in the theme of sustainability is the (re)discovery of the roots, that are not something left behind, but a necessary foundation for development: like the foundations of a skyscraper, roots sink down and support branches, leaves and fruits, but they are ever growing with the tree, bringing energy, nourishment and water up to the top of the tree. Within this framework, the various essays selected by Scientific Committee and peer reviewers are all integrated into the main topic, while maintaining a multidisciplinary character. Two wide streams are here defined, both including multiple topics: 1) Food, Environment, and Health (in the Pandemic); 2) Culture, Travel, and Tourism.

UNICART celebrated another birthday, and for this anniversary we present the selected essays that were candidates for the Best Paper Award of 2021. This book in our editorial series offers a highly selected, albeit multidisciplinary, group of essays that were presented at international UNICART conferences during the year 2021. (4th UNICART and 5th UNICART). The purpose of this selection (carried out by the IARC Scientific Committee with the valuable contribution of peer reviewers) is to provide a better framework for the scientific research of many scholars through the review of their work, in search of an added value to offer to the scientific community. The book is divided into 2 sections: 1. the first collects essays from senior researchers, who are the commanders of the ships of culture and scientific research, those who are able to lead our students into the turbulent sea of knowledge; 2. the second collects the papers from junior researchers, because UNICART believes and invests in young talents who represent our future. Peer review procedures guarantee good levels of interest and quality of published works, as well as scientific innovation in various research fields. Within the book, the various essays selected by the Scientific Committee and peer reviewers are all integrated into the main topics, which have a single common thread, now essential for UNICART: GAIA

The 2nd UNICARTourism International Conference took place conjointly at the Reald University (Vlore, Albania) and at Universitas Sancti Cyrilli A.D.1669 (La Valletta, Malta). All its activities were organized in both Live and Web Remote participation modes. The conference, like the previous (December 2020), aimed to focus on "Roots Tourism", or the return tourism of past emigrants or their descendants, but without forgetting the more usual aspects of tourism, as well as the collateral aspects of policies and regulations. 2nd UNICARTourism was intended as a laboratory to study and develop together the potential of the specified themes, sharing them with all colleagues from countries that have lived or still live today the same experience, and in particular with all the areas close to Albania. We thank all the participants who shared their research and analysis, contributing with their work to the success of this edition of the Conference. This book collects all the papers that were submitted by the participants for dissemination of research findings.

The 1st UNICARTourism International Conference takes place at the Calabria University (Arcavacata di Rende - Cosenza, Italy) from 18 to 19 December 2020, with the COVID-19 pandemic still looming over travel and relationships. For these reasons, all activities have been organized in both Live and Web Remote participation modes. The conference aims to focus on the "Roots Tourism", that is the return tourism of the past emigrants, or their descendants; however, the Root Tourism is often chained to other similar forms, as “Heritage Tourism”. 1st UNICARTourism aims to study and develop together the potential aspects of the specified themes and share them with all colleagues from countries who have lived or still live the same experience today, and particularly with Albania.

Diplomacy will also play a decisive role in radical tourism and its public governance: this is the message that emerged during the 1st UNICARTourism International Conference at the University of Calabria (Arcavacata of Rende - Cosenza, Italy) from 18 to 19 December 2020, with the COVID-19 pandemic still looming over travel and relationships. Roberto Galanti (Honorary Consul of the Republic of Moldova) recalled the consistent presence of Italians in a small state like Moldova. “The tourist of the roots is a sort of investor even if not necessarily of an economic nature: he is an ambassador of the territories. We must not be jealous but rather happy with an exchange of beauties and traditions: some of these are also similar between Italy and Moldova. We must therefore intercept a growing share of tourists also from states like the Moldovan one”, explained Galanti. Riccardo Milici (Ambassador A L of the Republic of Liberia in Italy) spoke about the tourist prospects of a country located in West Africa such as Liberia, therefore also theoretically outside mainstream tourism or news programs where classic tourism can find meeting points with the return one. Giovanni Maria De Vita (Head of Office I of the General Directorate for Italians Abroad of the MAECI) explained that, about roots tourism, "in reality it is about those who live abroad but have maintained a link with Italy, built through testimonies or habits handed down for example in the family“. “This form of tourism has important advantages for the territories: first of all, the promotion of work activities outside the mainstream circuit and which can concern, for example, small villages with low rates of economic growth and a strong depopulation; the second advantage is in the search for sustainable tourism, therefore respecting the artistic, real estate and cultural heritage“.

6th UNICART International Congress, first meeting in 2022. We stopped talking about COVID 19, but unfortunately the dramas and tragedies do not stop. The problem of food, which could turn into famine due to climate change, is increasingly topical. The environment in which man lives and acts (often with great recklessness) is in-creasingly put in crisis by human choices. For these reasons, tourism is once again changing its guidelines and development is opening up to new environment-friendly sustainability scenarios. On all these topics, conference participants present interesting points of view, explored in depth in numerous panels. This book collects the Abstracts of the papers discussed during the Conference.
