Slimmer werken en sociale innovatie zijn ‘hot’. Maar wat betekenen die begrippen eigenlijk? Slimmer werken en sociale innovatie gaan vooral over niet-technologische innovatie, en hebben tot doel het innovatief vermogen van een organisatie te versterken. Ook willen beide complementair zijn aan technologische innovatie, omdat bij technologische innovatie de sociale en organisatorische aspecten nogal eens worden veronachtzaamd. En dan werkt die innovatie niet. Dit boek plaatst de begrippen slimmer werken en sociale innovatie in een theoretisch kader dat is gestoeld op managementwetenschap, bedrijfskunde en hrm. Van daaruit belichten de auteurs resultaten uit empirisch onderzoek onder Nederlandse bedrijven en instellingen: hoe staan zij ervoor met slimmer werken en sociale innovatie? Ook worden praktijkvoorbeelden van slimmer werken en sociale innovatie beschreven op basis van succesvolle ‘cases’. Daarna behandelen de auteurs het veranderkundig ontwikkelen en invoeren van interventies met slimmer werken en sociale innovatie. Hiertoe wordt een stappenplan aangeboden en een overzicht van mogelijke interventies. Maar het boek wil niet prescriptief zijn en wil het doe-het-zelf karakter van innoveren stimuleren: Als u vindt dat het slimmer kan, doe het dan! Volgens de auteurs zit het innovatieve hem juist in de leus ‘niet harder, maar slimmer werken’. Het boek is vooral bedoeld voor managers die aan de slag willen met slimmer werken en sociale innovatie.
