Le béton est en réalité un très vieux matériau (matière). Les Romains l'ont même utilisé. Mais c'est toujours contemporain. Des événements récents concernant la force, le poids et la durabilité incitent les demandes (applications) innovatrices de ce matériau (matière). Une propriété de béton qui a à peine été étudiée est sa transparence. In 2012 Luster published Belgium's Best Buildings, an elegant and easy-to-use pocket guide for architecture fans and for everyone who is curious about architecture in Belgium. That same year, the book was nominated as ' One of the most inspiring architecture books of 2012 Architectura.be and The Word ' by Magazine presented it as one of the ' Six or Belgium's Best Travel Guides '. The concept of the book hasn't changed for this new updated and expanded edition: starting from the top ten lists or renowned Belgian architects and architecture critics, such as Christian Kieckens, Leo Valentine and Day Ball, it presents the best Belgian buildings (completed after 1900) with a photo and a short text in English and Dutch. The new edition contains about 20 buildings and new lists, 15 additional contributions from a.o. Kiki Verbeeck and Yves M from URA, and VAi-director Sofie De Caigny. The result is an interesting mix of well known contemporary buildings such as the MAS museum in Antwerp, historical must-sees and less obvious buildings, such as a modernist chapel or an architect's house.

Margaret Staal-Kropholler (1891-1966) is regarded as the first woman architect in the Netherlands. She completed her first work as an unqualified architect in 1917. Less well known is that Grada Wolffensperger (1887-1965) became the first woman to complete the univer-sity course in architecture at the Technische Hogeschool in Delft that same year. A further twenty women had completed their architectural training by 1945. Why and how did these women become architects at a time when women were expected to raise a family and take care of a house-hold? What was their education like? And was it actually possible for them to practise a profession so dominated by men?. Compliments to our brave architect! describes the emergence of women architects. Including 21 biographies, the book forms an indispensable reference work on a neglected aspect of Dutch architectural history.
