In deze studie krijgen we een beeld van hoe werkende vrouwen hun job combineren met hogere studies. Het gaat over de dikwijls moeilijke zoektocht om hun betaalde arbeid, de zorg voor kinderen en huishouden te verzoenen met hun studie. Zesenveertig vrouwen, laastejaars in sociale wetenschappen aan een community college, werden voor dit onderzoek geselecteerd. Zij vormden een diverse groep met verschillen in leeftijd, sociale klasse, etniciteit, seksualiteit, gezondheid en gezinstype. Zeventien van hen werden na hun afstuderen gevraagd voor een opvolgingsinterview.
