Mystical texts from five authors are presented in this volume of editions and translations from the Mingana collection of manuscripts, part of the Woodbrooke Studies series, the other volumes of which are also published by Gorgias Press. These authors from the Church of the East are generally not well known, but they belong to the 7th and 8th centuries: the physician Simon of Taibutheh, Dadisho‘ Qatraya, ‘Abdisho‘ Hazzaya, Joseph Hazzaya, and Abraham bar Dashandad. The English translations are all annotated in the way of the other volumes of the series. The Syriac texts are all given at the end of the book, and an index of proper names is also included. This unique volume will prove worthwhile reading for students and scholars of mysticism and religion during this period in the east.
