The collection comprises contributions delivered at the colloquium "The Castle as a Technical Issue. Technologies and Forms in the Construction of Mediaeval Fortified Settlements", held at the end of 2007 at the Moravian Museum, Brno, with the participation of archaeologists, architects, anthropologists, and heritage experts. Besides covering the building and historical development of castles, the contributions also concentrate on details of everyday life in mediaeval castles, people's diets, and armour. Sborník přináší příspěvky prezentované na semináři "Výrobní a technologické aspekty středověkých a raně novověkých komorových kachlů", který v souvislosti s výstavou "Krása, která hřeje. Gotické a renesanční kachle Moravy a Slezska" uspořádaly Ústav archeologie a muzeologie Masarykovy univerzity a Slovácké muzeum počátkem roku 2009 v Uherském Hradišti. A further Supplementum in the Dissertationes Archaeologicae Brunensis/Pragensesque series presents contributions by doctorate students of anthropology, archaeology, ethnology, and geological science, the outcomes of the Moravian-Silesian School of Doctorate Studies II grant. All contributions were produced as part of dissertation work done by the authors and were presented at a regular doctorate seminar in Brno. In chronological terms, the studies focus on the Palaeolithic, Neolithic and Hallstatt Age, the early Middle Ages, the Middle Ages, the modern age and the 19th century.
