Abstract

This book explores epigenetic strategies, bridging fundamental cancer epigenetics, different paradigms in tumor genetics and translational understanding for both the clinic and improved lifestyles. The work provides target-based insights for treating different types of cancers and presents research on evolutionary epigenetics, introducing ‘Medical Epi- Anthropology’ and ‘Cancer Epi-Anthropology’. Translating multi-disciplinary research into therapeutic design is at the core of this book. Readers may explore how cancer management involves unmasking the involved networks and the interactive status of different genes to achieve the appropriate methylome based therapy. Early chapters explore fundamental aspects and brain tumours, whilst later chapters investigate breast cancer and various other cancers, and the final chapter presents an evolutionary insight in cancer epigenetics, considering that the epigene is beyond DNA methylation, RNA interference and histone modification in cancer development. This book will be of interest to researchers in different medical and scientific fields, including clinical management (diagnosis, prognosis, prediction, prevention, and guidelines), genetic education, nutrition and nutrigenomics, industrial chemistry, and drug innovation. Because of the unique bridging between science and medicine this book will also be useful as an educational and translational research package.

Abstract

Timing, racing, combating, struggling and targeting is some actions through which cellular fate could be reflected and evaluated. Interaction between cell territory and environment occur during pre-embryonic, fetal development, and post-natal periods. What the researchers observe as the outcome of telomeres behavior is only the peak of an ice mountain within a stormy ocean. Cellular life depends on programmed behavior of telomeres, capable to surprise the cells. Telomeres provide an introduction to the history of our cells which govern the quality of life and status of health. Telomeres as the cooperative territory are capable of stabilizing the chromosomal territory. The status of telomeres reflects the key information, announcing the real age of individuals, and may be a valuable marker for prognosis and predicting cancer. Telomere territory is characterized with a multi-disciplinary manner. Therefore, this book is aimed to offer a wide range of chapters, hoping to be useful for diverse audiences, including hematologists-oncologists, radiotherapists, surgeons, cancer researchers, and all the sectors who affect the macro- and micro- environmental domains. Finally, telomeres are sensitive, cooperative, and trustable targets. It is worth to state that ‘telomeres are messengers of NATURE’, let’s to know them as they are.

Abstract

Cancer is the scandal magic event of Nature. Psycho-Oncogenetic is an insight for research, education, and translated cancer medicine that open a new window to patients, psychologists, surgeons, oncologists, haematologists, geneticists and scientists who are aimed to pave the ways towards an alternative management for cancer patients. Being cooperative, innovative, perceptive, and inspired are some essential characteristics for, participating in cancer translated research. Applicability of suggestive complementary insights including Pharmacogenomics (PG), Pharmacokinetics (PK), Pharmaco-Psycho-Somatic (PPS), Pharmaco-Psycho-Genomics (PPG), Pharmaco-Psycho-Kinetics (PPK), may facilitate the access of the Personalized Pharmaco-Therapy (PPT) as the reliable target-based strategy. So, by bridging Pharmacogenetics to Psycho-Genetics, the harmonized and multi- target-based insights would, gradually, facilitate to connect the initial station of cancer coach to the final station of cancer management, which is the appropriate individualized cancer therapy. In this regards, the global insight is required to be replaced by the personalized cascade management from A to Z. It was my task and aim to consider a comprehensive manner in editing of this book. This endeavor was relied on the authors and co-authors who have, greatly, contributed to this package which will, hopefully, spread the provided basic and applicable scientific, and clinical messages to the audiences who play roles in the cancer world. The contents of this book include 26 chapters including basic Science/Genetics, psychology and clinical aspects in different tumors. The contents of this package may inspire a profounder concern of coordinated strategy in cancer research and cancer management. Besides, it may also provide some clues to positioning of puzzles for innovating the target-based cancer therapy. Let’s move towards planning an appropriate social life style with an individualized diagnosis and management for cancer patients. By considering the global sharing, triggering the burdens is the key aim in cancer.

Abstract

This atlas presents the results of cases of structural chromosome aberrations based on the currently available methods of analysis for different types of abnormality. It particularly focuses on which spectrum should be chosen when combining the different techniques to achieve the best method of diagnosis in individual cases, for example direct preparation of cells and mitoses, short or long-time cell culture, fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH), analysis of interphases, microarray or DNA sequencing. Generally it has to be taken into account, that the development of new and improved investigation methods is forthcoming. Thus, by improvement of diagnostic possibilities new fields of investigation arise, and special groups of patients with cytogenetic analyses can be re-analysed under new research questions.

Abstract

Now in its second edition, this atlas serves as an easy-to-use diagnostic guide for the analysis of the human karyotype. Split in four parts, it starts with a comprehensive introduction covering the molecular cytogenetic basics, the role of ethic committees and international quality control in the field of diagnostics. The main parts II and III, demonstrate the spectrum of the different types of chromosome abnormalities by a combination of karyogram and ideogram, it compares the expressiveness of different banding techniques, and it gives the karyotype formula and describes morphological peculiarities of each presented case. The final part, provides a detailed description of variants of non-coding DNA and focuses on potential problems in detecting aberrations and mentions necessary additional investigations and peculiarities, which have to be taken into account when counseling carriers of a chromosome aberration or their relatives. Given its comprehensive scope and practical approach, this atlas is an indispensable resource for researchers, clinicians and practitioners working in the field of cytogenetics and clinical genetics.
