This detailed study in religious studies is intended as a contribution to the study of Hinduisms. It reconstructs Hindu temple practices in Zurich and Vienna, representative of two national contexts. The focus is on the question of the practical execution of events in the Hindu temple, i.e. the question of which practices create a temple as such. Committed to an ethnomethodological approach, the study reconstructs the routine of communal Hindu temple practice - the 'doing mandir'. In doing so, it fills a research gap and contributes to the establishment of practice theory approaches in religious studies and their translation into the concretion of empirical research. Die religionswissenschaftliche Detailstudie versteht sich als Beitrag zur Erforschung von Hinduismen. Sie rekonstruiert in Zürich und Wien, stellvertretend für zwei nationalstaatliche Kontexte, hinduistische Tempelpraktiken. Im Zentrum steht die Frage nach dem praktischen Vollzug des Geschehens im Hindutempel, also die Frage danach, welche Praktiken einen Tempel als solchen hervorbringen. Einem ethnomethodologischen Zugang verpflichtet, rekonstruiert die Studie die Routine gemeinschaftlicher hinduistischer Tempelpraxis – das „doing mandir“. Damit füllt sie eine Forschungslücke und leistet einen Beitrag zur Etablierung praxistheoretischer Zugänge in der Religionswissenschaft und ihrer Übersetzung in die Konkretion empirischer Forschung.

"This interdisciplinary volume presents research at the intersection of religion, age and race and tackles the question what it is like to be young and religious in a migration society. The chapters' foci range from digital and offline activism of religious youth to participatory action research projects on radicalisation prevention. The authors present research on various religious traditions, and apply an array of different theoretical angles including feminist, post- and de-colonial perspectives. In going one step further, the volume engages in the debate over novel conceptual frameworks attuned to investigate contemporary manifestations of youth religiosity, for example in digital spaces. The methodological chapters strongly advocate for reflexivity in the context of empirical research on religion in migration society.
