De hoofdpersoon van 'Dat is waar' is een filosoof die soms hoofdpijn heeft van het harde nadenken. Te pas en te onpas wordt hij gestoord door Elsemiek en Bas, kinderen uit de buurt. Het drietal raakt in allerlei grappige en ontroerende situaties verzeild. De filosoof laat de kinderen zien dat de antwoorden die zij geven op hun eigen vragen vaak intelligenter zijn dan ze zelf hadden ingezien. Moet je altijd de waarheid spreken?
