"Chinese politics are at a crossroads as President Xi Jinping amasses personal power and tests the constraints of collective leadership. In the years since he became general secretary of the Chinese Communist Party in 2012, Xi Jinping has surprised many people in China and around the world with his bold anti-corruption campaign and his aggressive consolidation of power. Given these new developments, we must rethink how we analyze Chinese politics-an urgent task as China now has more influence on the global economy and regional security than at any other time in modern history. Chinese Politics in the Xi Jinping Era examines how the structure and dynamics of party leadership have evolved since the late 1990s and argues that "inner-party democracy"-the concept of collective leadership that emphasizes deal making based on accepted rules and norms-may pave the way for greater transformation within China's political system. Xi's legacy will largely depend on whether he encourages or obstructs this trend of political institutionalization in the governance of the world's most populous and increasingly pluralistic country. Cheng Li also addresses the recruitment and composition of the political elite, a central concern in Chinese politics. China analysts will benefit from the meticulously detailed biographical information of the 376 members of the 18th Central Committee, including tables and charts detailing their family background, education, occupation, career patterns, and mentor-patron ties"--

The purpose of this study is to propose a simple and cheap solution to the microbial contamination of drinking water dispensed by water filtering devices. Tap water will always contain aerobic heterotrophic bacteria. Those bacteria create an unwanted biofilm inside the microfiltered water dispensers (MWDs) circuits, because this results in contaminated water. Most microorganisms found in tap water are resistant to disinfectants. Some microorganisms, like Pseudomonas aeruginosa, are toxic for humans.UV-rays sources (UV-LEDs or low-pressure bulbs) or detergents can be used to improve MWDs.It is not executable or meaningful to strive for drinking water completely free of aerobic heterotrophic bacteria. The main purposes of the water filters is to give drinkable water that is free of pathogens and to make sure that the water is organoleptic satisfying. On top of that, the presence of large numbers of bacteria in the filtered water or biofilms may compromise the identification of contamination from outside the pipework and reservoir structures.Because no single treatment process is able to remove all the different types of pathogens that can be found in water, it is advised to use multiple barriers to minimalize the chance of pathogens. The number of treatments depends on the quality of the water that needs to be filtered. Groundwater, for example, is usually relatively clean. It is protected from the water surface and therefore needs fewer treatments normally. However, surface waters contain usually a lot of urban, human or industrial effluents. So surface waters are of lower quality and require more treatments than groundwater. The effect of packaged ultrafilters and detergents on different water filtering devices was tested in this study. Eight representative devices (new or already in use) were chosen, after the water contamination levels of multiple microfiltered water dispensers were assessed. The contamination levels of a couple of equal units were observed in parallel, with and without the packaged ultrafilter or detergents. The total number of colony forming units (CFU) in water samples was counted by aerobic plate count. Pseudomonas aeruginosa and the Total Coliforms number were determined by using the fluorescent “Pseudoalert” kit tests. The microbial activity of the water filtering devices dropped significantly by the use of packaged ultrafilters. Detergents only had a temporary improvement on the water quality.
