The RAF Reaper Force has been at war continuously since its inception in 2007, longer than the First and Second World Wars combined. Yet it remains one of the most secretive military communities in the world. The pilots, sensor operators and mission intelligence coordinators from 39 Squadron at Creech US Air Force Base, Nevada, and XIII Squadron at RAF Waddington, Lincolnshire, fly Reapers remotely via satellite link, observing and sometimes killing distant enemies in Afghanistan, Iraq and Syria. Their work has prompted public controversy and regular anti-drone protests, yet little is known about the Reaper Force. Even less is known about the crews who live every day between home and work, peace and war. The author has been granted unprecedented access, over several years, to the RAF's Reaper squadrons and personnel, observing real-time lethal missile strikes and surveillance missions against Islamic State jihadists in Syria and Iraq alongside the crews involved. He takes the reader into the Ground Control Stations where life and death, kill or no-kill decisions are made every day, and has also conducted extensive interviews with Reaper crew members, spouses and partners. The result is a unique and intimate portrait of the human aspect of remote air warfare in the twenty-first century.

At the present time, when authority for the church's beliefs and actions is the subject of much discussion, this book attempts to look to the authority of God, Jesus Christ, and the Holy Spirit, and how these are transmitted within apostolic tradition by word, actions, and writings. Elements giving weight to authority (co-inherence, consistency, and universality) are examined along with the scope and limits of interpretative tradition.
Church --- Authority --- Authority. --- Religious aspects --- Christianity.

This groundbreaking anthology, edited by the veteran scholar who founded the field of Korean literature in the West, offers a representative selection from the four major genres of native Korean poetry: the Silla songs known as hyangga, Koryo songs, sijo, and kasa. The performance of oral songs was central to the religious life of ancient Koreans, and their passion for song and poetry is as evident in these texts today as it was to the earliest Chinese observers. Therefore, in addition to such classics as the Songs of Flying Dragons, the great eulogy-cycle compiled from 1445 to 1447, the volume also includes folk songs and shamanist narrative songs. Within each genre works are arranged chronologically so that the reader can trace artistic developments over time. The translations, many commissioned especially for this volume, have been prepared by distinguished scholars and literary translators and are fully annotated, making them ideal for use in the classroom.
