Abstract

This vital collection provides a unique set of techniques to explore the clinical, pathological, and research aspects of the management of patients with esophageal adenocarcinoma. Beginning with an introduction to the basic features of esophageal adenocarcinoma, the book continues with clinical protocols for the management of the cancer, pathological methods for management of the patients and research, as well as protocols for molecular research, which could aid researchers in furthering our understanding of pathogenesis as well as in identifying new targets for the treatment and prevention of adenocarcinoma. Written for the highly successful Methods in Molecular Biology series, chapters include introductions on their respective topics, lists of the necessary materials and reagents, step-by-step, readily reproducible protocols, and tips on troubleshooting and avoiding known pitfalls.  Comprehensive and authoritative, Esophageal Adenocarcinoma: Methods and Protocols is a valuable guide to stimulate specialists from various disciplines in their continuing research into esophageal adenocarcinoma and translating that research into improving the management of this cancer of rising importance.

Abstract

This detailed volume presents status and management protocols with the objective of identifying proper guidelines and materials for research related to the most common malignant neoplasm in the thyroid gland, papillary thyroid carcinoma. After an introduction, the book explores diagnostic approaches and initial surgical managements for patients with papillary thyroid carcinoma, guidelines for macroscopic examination, microscopic examination, and pathological staging, molecular approaches to this cancer, pathology laboratory approaches, as well as radiology oncology treatment protocols. Written for the highly successful Methods in Molecular Biology series, chapters include introductions to their respective topics, lists of the necessary materials and reagents, step-by-step laboratory protocols that are readily reproducible, and tips on troubleshooting and avoiding known pitfalls. Authoritative and practical, Papillary Thyroid Carcinoma: Methods and Protocols serves as a vital resource for information on different aspects of the processes, cost, and resources available for the research and management of patients with papillary thyroid carcinoma.

Abstract

This book comprehensively reviews the role of cancer stem cells (CSCs) in cancer initiation, progression, and resistance to anticancer therapies. The initial chapters examine the methods and procedure of the detection, isolation, and characterization of CSCs. It also introduces various epigenetic pathways that contribute to cancer initiation and tumorigenesis, particularly regarding the maintenance and survival of CSCs. It also explores the role of CSCs metabolism and the mechanisms of metabolic plasticity of CSCs in cancer biology. Further, it also presents the implications of CSCs on the origin of tumor heterogeneity and on heterogeneity of the therapeutic response. Towards the end, this book highlights the different immunotherapeutic approaches targeting CSCs with the potential of strongly improving cancer outcomes. This book offers a broad framework to scientists and clinicians into the state-of-the-art knowledge on cancer stem cell biology and highlights their therapeutic implications.
