Hans Scharoun is one of the most important architects of the 20th century; as a proponent of organic architecture, he created unconventional and imaginative buildings which adapt to users? needs in a dynamic way. His oeuvre includes family residences and housing estates but also encompasses the German embassy in Brazil, and urban icons such as the Berlin Philharmonie.00The book, a cooperation with Baukunstarchiv (the architecture archive) of the Akademie der Künste, Berlin, documents the entire range of known completed buildings by Scharoun, including, for the first time, early works in East Prussia. The specially taken photographs by Carsten Krohn, together with the historic photographs and plans from the Hans-Scharoun-Archive offer a new overview of this expressive organic architecture.

This essential and comprehensive Mies monograph focuses in its analysis on Mies' design intentions: it reconstructs the buildings in their orginal state, examines them from the present day persepctive and rediscovers the inspiring architecture of a great modern master. The book presents eighty of Mies' works in chronological order. Approximately thirty of these works are analyzed in detail in three parts. In the first part, the construction is documented in its built state; for this all the ground plans were redrawn by the author. The second part outlines the changes to the buildings and the third part develops the results of this investigation with regard to their relevance to the contemporary view of Mies' work.

"As founder of the Bauhaus school, Walter Gropius (1883-1969) is one of the icons of 20th-century architecture. While his early buildings in Pomerania were still strongly marked by his teacher Peter Behrens, after an expressionistic phase focused on handicraft, he ultimately arrived at geometric abstraction. During the entire period he collaborated with other architects, founding the collective known as "The Architects Collaborative" in the US. This comprehensive monograph documents all 74 of the known buildings by Gropius that were realized, including many early works which he never publicized; but it also critically examines his unbuilt projects. The book is illustrated with new photographs by the author, historical figures, and with as-new plans drawn by the author"--

Erich Mendelsohn (1887–1953) was one of the most versatile architects of the 20th century. His work reconciles the opposites of organic and rational building, of technological innovation and a regionalist attitude, of individual form and universal expression. He fled from Germany in 1933 via England and Palestine to the USA, and his work remains influential to this day. This comprehensive monograph documents all 70 of Mendelsohn's known completed buildings through text and images. In two essays, it also looks at his design approach and his life. A newly compiled register lists all of his unbuilt projects The publication also contains numerous new photographs by Carsten Krohn, newly drawn plans and historical illustrations.

The architectural work of Hans and Wassili Luckhardt (1890-1954/1889-1972) is not yet adequately appreciated. As members of the Glass Chain initiative and the Ring collective, they shaped, especially through their work with Alfons Anker, the development of Modernist architecture in the 1920s, as evidenced by their winning design for the layout of Berlin's Alexanderplatz. While their early work was anchored in utopian expressionism, a more objective attitude emerged later, based on the application of new architectural constructs. The book documents all 40 of Hans und Wassili Luckhardt's realized buildings. Two essays deal with the unbuilt and utopian projects. Newly taken photographs and newly drawn plans by Carsten Krohn complement the historical illustrations.
