Histological evaluation of the periprosthetic soft and osseous tissues is an important analytical tool. Gelenkerkrankungen - besonders die rheumatoide Arthritis, an der weltweit 3-5% der Bevölkerung leiden, aber auch andere Pathologien, belasten seit jeher die Menschheit. Oft führen die Erkrankungen zur Zerstörung des Gelenkes, so dass ein vollständiger Ersatz, also eine Endoprothese, nötig wird.Mit der Problematik befassen sich in der Praxis meist die Fachärtzte für Orthopädie und Unfallchirurgie und in der Diagnostik die Fachärzte für Pathologie.
