Nowadays because of the awareness of environmental concerns by the society companies have to take actions to reduce their environmental impact and develop an appropriate strategy. In these circumstances, the purpose of this paper is to analyze the incorporation of the environmental dimension in the performance’s management and challenge the interest of Environmental Management System (EMS) in the food industry. The first part of this thesis will introduce you the concept of sustainability, environmental dimension and the EMS. Then these subjects will be broached within the food industry. In the second part, the environmental performance of 10 companies will be study. Finally after studying the integration of the environmental dimension into performance management this paper will highlight the limits of environmental approaches and will identify potential areas for improvement that would allow a greener management. Through a review of existing literature and thanks to a case study this essay will show you why it is interesting to jump on the bandwagon of the environmental business.
