Visual artist Stan Douglas explores the turbulent history of 1970s Portugal, a time when the nation both freed itself from a dictatorship and relinquished its colonial holdings. The book features three works. The first, a video installation titled 'The Secret Agent', follows a story written by Joseph Conrad in 1907. Douglas keeps the plot characters but transports the narrative to Lisbon, soon after the Carnation Revolution. 'Disco Angola', a series of staged historic photos in New York and Angola, juxtaposes the city's hedonistic nightlife with the African nation's brutal civil war. Finally, 'Luanda-Kinshasa' is a six-hour-long film comprising eleven jazz songs from the legendary 30th Street Studio. Exhibition: Wiels, Brussels, Belgium (09.10.2015-10.01.2016).

The publication Thievery and Songs appears on the occasion of the exhibition «Diebstahl und Gesänge» by Gernot Wieland at the Kunst Halle Sankt Gallen (29 August – 22 November 2020). Characteristic of Wieland's work is the intertwining of man, artist and artwork. His art and his person convey a quiet, lasting fascination with his environment and what has influenced him or even shaped him since childhood. In addition to self-analysis and representation, his art also contains an analysis of social norms and repressed aspects of society that are expressed in hegemonic structures, for example in school and in the treatment of children. His sketches and film narratives convey a lasting impression of the mixture of trauma, repression, and guilt imposed on his generation, as well as of the obscene and absurd manifestations of the Austrian condition. With contributions by Ana Teixeira Pinto, Giovanni Carmine, Lars-Erik Hjertström Lappalainen, Maxwell Stephens und Séamus Kealy.
