A team of over 30 linguists came together for the 'Routledge Dictionary of Language and Linguistics', forming the most comprehensive and up-to-date work of its kind in the English language. In over 2,500 entries, the dictionary provides an exhaustive surrvey of the subdisciplines of linguistics and covers many of the world's languages. With its term-based approach and emphasis on clear analysis, it complements perfectly Routledge's established range of reference material in the field of linguistics. Alphabetically organized, each entry conforms to a structure designed to convey the maximum amount of information and to meet each user's needs. For ease-of-use, the book also contains 38 illustrations indicating and a cumulative bibliography containing hundreds of references.

In many fields of professional practice and research, conversations can no longer be conducted in the first language of the respective participants. The increasing diversity of languages, of multi- and translingualism require the involvement of language mediators/interpreters. In the contexts of flight, asylum and migration, this interdisciplinary volume discusses different procedural strategies for overcoming linguistic as well as culturally conditioned communication barriers and highlights the emerging methodological and theoretical challenges for social counselling and therapy practice as well as for the practice of qualitative research. The editors Prof. Dr. Angela Treiber holds the professorship for European Ethnology/Cultural Analysis at the KU Eichstätt-Ingolstadt. Her research and teaching focuses include empirical research on religion and migration (history of theory and science). PD Dr. Kerstin Kazzazi is a linguist at the KU Eichstätt-Ingolstadt and conducts research on multilingualism. Dr. Marina Jaciuk is a freelance European ethnologist and lecturer at the professorship of European Ethnology/Cultural Analysis at the KU Eichstätt-Ingolstadt. This book is a translation of an original German edition. The translation was done with the help of artificial intelligence (machine translation by the service DeepL.com). A subsequent human revision was done primarily in terms of content, so that the book will read stylistically differently from a conventional translation.

Zunehmende Mobilität und Migration von Menschen haben die Erfahrung sozialer und kultureller Heterogenität, die Pluralität von Lebensweisen an vielen Orten zum Normalfall werden lassen. Zusammen mit der Präsenz von Wissensbeständen aus unterschiedlichen Deutungshorizonten verlangt dies von Menschen, mit Mehrdeutigem und Ambiguitäten des Kulturellen, Sprachlichen, Religiösen und Weltanschaulichen zu leben. Die Transformationsprozesse in gesellschaftlichen und individuell erfahrungs- und handlungsorientierten Zusammenhängen stehen im Fokus. Transkulturalität wird dabei als ein heuristisches Instrument verstanden, um den Prozesscharakter von Kulturen und die Dynamik des fortwährenden Aushandelns von Inhalten und Dingen sowie deren Bedeutungen in sozialen Prozessen zu erfassen. Der Blick auf den Alltag der Menschen mit Migrationserfahrung zeigt die variationsreichen Verbindungen von individuellen und gruppenspezifischen Bedürfnissen, Referenzen zum Herkunftsland und Orientierungen am neuen gesellschaftlichen Umfeld.
