Optical Networking Standards: A Comprehensive Guide for Professionals provides a single source reference of over a hundred standards and industry technical specifications for optical networks at all levels: from components to networking systems through global networks, as well as coverage of networks management and services. This book focuses on the recently approved, adopted and implemented standards that have fueled the development of versatile switches, routers and multi-service provisioning platforms. These networking elements have enabled the service-providers world-wide to offer flexible yet customized bundled-services based on IP, MPLS and Carrier-Grade Ethernet. Highlights include recent advancements involving: - Critical technical standards and implementation from ITU-T, IETF, MEF, and OIF - Optimization of SONET/SDH and OTN infrastructure for data delivery, GFP, VCAT and LCAS - IP, MPLS, Ethernet and Fibre Channel services over public networks - Optical control plane for dynamically switched optical networks, ASON - Network survivability and recovery - Timing in global optical networks - Architecture of optical transport networks - Network element design using standardized components and inter-components communication - Numerous illustrative examples showing actual situations or cases implemented Lead implementers, contributors and editors of the new standards from networking equipment and VLSI manufacturers and service providers such as AMCC, Agere Systems, British Telecom, Ciena Corporation, Cisco Systems, Lucent Technologies, Marconi, Nortel, Tellabs, PMC-Sierra, Strix Systems and other independent consultants have come together to produce this uniform and complete reference. The volume has been edited by Dr. Khurram Kazi, a networking veteran with over 19 years of real-world expertise in architecting and designing ASICs and systems for SONET, IP, ATM, PDH and Ethernet networks. Dr. Kazi has published refereed articles and conference tutorials on topics ranging from optical components to ASICs and Optical Networks.

"In Pakistan, religious talk shows emerged as a popular television genre following the 2002 media liberalization reforms. Since then, these shows have become important platforms where ideas about Islam and religious authority in Pakistan are developed and argued. In Religious Television and Pious Authority in Pakistan, Taha Kazi reveals how these talk shows mediate changes in power, belief, and practice. She also identifies the sacrifices and compromises that religious scholars feel compelled to make in order to ensure their presence on television. These scholars, of varying doctrinal and educational backgrounds-including madrasa-educated scholars and self-taught celebrity preachers-are given screen time to debate and issue religious edicts on the authenticity and contemporary application of Islamic concepts and practices. In response, viewers are sometimes allowed to call in live with questions. Kazi maintains that these featured debates inspire viewers to reevaluate the status of scholarly edicts, thereby fragmenting religious authority. By exploring how programming decisions inadvertently affect viewer engagements with Islam, Religious Television and Pious Authority in Pakistan looks beyond the revivalist impact of religious media and highlights the prominence of religious talk shows in disrupting expectations about faith"

As the World Bank and government of Bangladesh celebrate 50 years of development cooperation this year, a key highlight is the journey towards addressing climate change and improving the resilience of the coastal zone. From the outset, the World Bank has been a long-standing partner in the government's efforts to reduce the risks from disasters and enhance coastal resilience, resulting in a number of noteworthy achievements. Bangladesh demonstrated how investments in the entire chain of disaster risk reduction saves lives, reduces economic losses, and protects development gains. Proactive policies and sound investments in strengthening resilience across multiple fronts over the last five decades have resulted in a drastic decline in the number of casualties from cyclones.

This book gives emphasis to wood fiber raw materials, alternative sources of fibers for paper production, environmental issues, paper quality improvement and cost of paper production. Varieties of non-wood raw materials, including kenaf, rice straw, empty fruit bunches of palm trees, bamboo, bagasse, etc., are considered in this book. The process of fiber treatment also varied to meet paper quality improvement. Different organosolv processes of fiber treatment are discussed. Considering contemporary issues, one particular chapter analyzes the environmentally friendly way of processing non-wood fibers for paper production. The book also contains a chapter on the by-product raw materials of paper production and their profitable applications.

This book provides a critical analysis of the Rohingya refugees’ identity building processes and how this is closely linked to the state-building process of Myanmar as well as issues of marginalization, statelessness, forced migration, exile life, and resistance of an ethnic minority. With a focus on the ethnic minority’s life at the Myanmar-Bangladesh border, the author demonstrates how the state itself is involved in the construction of identity, which it manipulates for its own political purposes. The study is based on original research, largely drawn from fieldwork data. It presents an alternative and endogenous interpretation of the problem in contrast to the exogenous narrative espoused by state institutions, non-governmental organizations, and the media.
