In der medizinischen Grundlagenforschung nimmt die Biochemie einen immer bedeutenderen Rang ein, doch leider stellt das Fach nur allzu oft eine der großen Hürden vor dem Physikum dar. Mit diesem Lehrbuch verhelfen die Autoren den Studenten der Medizin und der Zahnmedizin im vorklinischen Studienabschnitt ganz entscheidend zu einem Verständnis für die Biochemie und Pathobiochemie. Die Biochemie wird fächerübergreifend dargestellt, wobei auf ausführliche klinische Bezüge (Pathobiochemie, Klinische Chemie) besonderer Wert gelegt wird. In der 7. Auflage wurden die Kapitel Aminosäurestoffwechsel und Immunologie vollständig neu bearbeitet, weitere 5 Abschnitte wurden ebenfalls aktualisiert. Im gesamten Buch wurden klinische Bezüge wenn nötig neueren Entwicklungen angepasst sowie Abbildungen modernisiert. Die folgenden 7 Kapitel bzw. Abschnitte wurden ganz neu aufgenommen: - Intrazelluläres Proteintargeting - Zellzyklus, Apoptose und Nekrose - Signaltransduktion während des Sehprozesses - JAK/STAT-Signalkaskade - Leptin Eine Fragensammlung wurde mit aufgenommen. .
