Recently, the field of quantum computation and information has been developing through a fusion of results from various research fields in theoretical and practical areas. This book constitutes the refereed proceedings of the 8th International Symposium on Algorithms and Computation, ISAAC'97, held in Singapore in December 1997. The 42 revised full papers presented were selected from a total of 98 submissions.
