The Politics of the New Germany takes a new approach to understanding politics in post-unification Germany. Assuming only elementary knowledge, it focuses on debates and issues to portray Germany's key institutions and policies. Written in a straightforward style by a team of four experts, each of the chapters draws on a rich variety of real-world examples to illustrate its arguments. In doing so, it brings new relevance to topics such as Germany's foreign policy role and its social market economy, specifically for a student audience. The book also takes a birds-eye perspective of the big debates that define German politics over time, regardless of which party happens to be in power, and pinpoints three key themes of reconciliation, consensus and transformation. The book thus provides a comprehensive, yet still highly accessible overview to what drives politics in Europe's biggest nation state and therefore constitutes an ideal introduction to this vital country for students of politics and international relations, as well as of European and German Studies.

Corruption takes many different forms and the systems that enable it are complex and challenging. To best understand corruption, one needs to examine how it operates in practice. Understanding Corruption tells the story of how corruption happens in the real world, illustrated through detailed case studies of the many different types of corruption that span the globe. Each case study follows a tried and tested analytical approach that provides key insights into the workings of corruption and the measures best used to tackle it. The case studies examined include examples of corporate bribery, political corruption, facilitation payments, cronyism, state capture, kleptocracy, asset recovery, offshore secrecy, reputation laundering and unexplained wealth, and actors include businesses, governments, politicians, governing bodies and public servants.
