This new handbook in transfusion medicine and hemostasis combines clinical and laboratory information from two highly overlapping fields into one concise, easy-to-use pocket book. This comprehensive reference guide will have the depth of information to be helpful to all physicians who order and administer blood components and specialized factors for hemostatic abnormalities, as well as those who consult and care for these usually very ill patients. The breadth of the book will be ideal for pathology, transfusion medicine, hematology, and anesthesiology residents and fellows, as well as certifi

This new handbook in transfusion medicine and hemostasis aims to combine clinical and laboratory information from two fields which have high degrees of overlap into one concise, easy-to-use pocket book. This comprehensive reference guide will have the depth of information to be helpful to all physicians who order and administer blood components and specialized factors for hemostatic abnormalities, as well as those who consult and care for these often very ill patients. The breadth of the book will be ideal for pathology, transfusion medicine, hematology, and anesthesiology residents and fellows, as well as certified and specialized practitioners in these fields. The editors have chosen to employ a standardized format throughout the book which allows each chapter to be focused on a well-defined subject consisting of less than 6 pages. Information should be easy to read, precise, and concise. Though extensive reference lists are valuable in larger texts, they are not necessary in a pocket-size handbook intended for quick reference. The editors have chosen to include key, recent publications as "Further Readings", most often from the past 2 years. A general reference list to larger textbooks and standards in the fields will be included at the end along with a list of common abbreviations and indexes that cross reference diagnostic, clinical and therapeutic commonalities.

Ever since the discovery of blood types early in the last century, transfusion medicine has evolved at a breakneck pace. This second edition of Blood Banking and Transfusion Medicine is exactly what you need to keep up. It combines scientific foundations with today's most practical approaches to the specialty. From blood collection and storage to testing and transfusing blood components, and finally cellular engineering, you'll find coverage here that's second to none. New advances in molecular genetics and the scientific mechanisms underlying the field are also covered, with an emphasis on the clinical implications for treatment. Whether you're new to the field or an old pro, this book belongs in your reference library. Integrates scientific foundations with clinical relevance to more clearly explain the science and its application to clinical practice. Highlights advances in the use of blood products and new methods of disease treatment while providing the most up-to-date information on these fast-moving topics.

"Transfusion Medicine and Hemostasis: Clinical and Laboratory Aspects, Third Edition, is the only pocket-sized, quick reference for pathology and transfusion medicine residents and fellows. It covers all topics in transfusion medicine and clinical and laboratory-based coagulation. Chapters are organized by multiple hierarchical headings and are supplemented with up to 10 suggested reading citations. This single handbook covers all the topics required to meet the goals of a major program in transfusion medicine and clinical coagulation. Changes to this edition include the latest AABB standards and new chapters focused on a wider range of specific populations requiring blood and related products. Coverage includes essential updates on peripheral blood and bone marrow hematopoietic progenitor cells, as well as cord blood banking and regenerative medicine. The authors also examine advances in therapeutic apheresis and new cellular therapies"--Publisher's description.

Structured to be a companion to the recently published Handbook of Transfusion Medicine, the Handbook of Pediatric Transfusion Medicine is dedicated to pediatric hematology-oncology and transfusion medicine, a field which remains ambiguous and which has generated few comprehensive texts. This book stands alone as one of the few texts that addresses transfusion issues specific to pediatric medicine. Written in an eminently readable style, this authoritative handbook is a requirement for any pediatric physician or caregiver.* Neonatal and fetal immune response and in utero develo
