Abstract

This work is aimed to study, both in an analytic and a numerical way, solitons in Bose-Einstein condensates. To reach that goal, a detour through the general theory of Bose-Einstein condensates in a mean-field picture is needed. Once the concepts established, the study of the solitons themselves can be undertaken. In this work, these structures are studied in the framework of the Gross-Pitaevskii equation, which is a mean-field approximation. Numerically, the discretization in time is performed through a spectral method, whereas the space discretization is done through finite difference. Even if the code that was developped is able to fit the analytic result for a free Schrödinger equation (for a sufficiently small timestep), the analytic solution of the full Gross-Pitaevskii equation cannot be fitted over long periods of time, even with a small timestep, which indicates that more elaborated numerical techniques have to be used.

Abstract

Drones are today's main disruptive technology, and will continue to dominate the future of flight. Spanning wide ranges of sizes and shapes, drones are very versatile, and can be used for various applications, ranging from State and Public applications, to Industrial ones, throught commercial, and even recreational, ones.

The various advantages of drones, under which (i) a relative low cost, (ii) an arguably long operation range, (iii) reduced risks to human life in some situations, etc., led to their mass production, and even integration into regular military plannings.

Despite their advantages, drones pose some oversight and regulation challenges, primarily due to their dual-use: the combination of cheapness with user friendliness led that technology to nefarious usages, such as air traffic perturbation, nuclear power plant overflights, and even terrorist attacks.

To mitigate, or even prevent, the risks posed by rogue drones, some regularisations have been established by States and regularisation bodies. However, even with regularisations, their enforcement remain a challenge, hence the need the effective and efficient countermeasures. This work is part of this context, in which some jamming strategies have been investigated and implemented, so as to act as nondestructive countermeasures.
