Abstract

This guide presents a hands-on discussion of grouting fundamentals and provides a foundation for the development of practical specifications and field procedures. With a pragmatic approach to the subject of grouting, Henn concentrates on types of drilling, mixing, and pumping equipment, as well as their application. The book focuses on how cementitious grouting is used on conjunction with the excavation and lining of tunnels, shafts, and underground caverns in rock. Overviews of cementitious grouting in soils and chemical grouting are also provided. Topics range from record keeping to quality control and testing requirements to field operations, and production rates. This book is written as a useful handbook for engineers, construction supervisors, inspectors, and other professionals involved in the planning, design, and implementation of underground grouting programs.

Abstract

Ultrafine Cement in Pressure Grouting presents the technical and practical information required by engineers to plan and implement grouting programs that are cost effective and technically sound. As a key component of modern grouting programs, ultrafine cement is an ideal solution for geotechnical engineers and construction contractors who are grappling with the challenges of managing costs while developing sites that may be less than ideal. Increasingly, the virtues of ultrafine cement lead engineers and contractors to use it rather than the less-expensive portland cements. The authors concisely define ultrafine cement, describe its engineering properties, and explain its manufacture, packaging, and storage. Mixing and pumping procedures and quality control issues are covered, as well as recommendations for specifying ultrafine cement in contracts. An appendix offers 16 brief project descriptions. Ultrafine Cement in Pressure Grouting is a fundamental reference that will be consulted frequently by geotechnical engineers who specify grouting materials for construction projects.

Abstract

Copublished by ASCE Press and Thomas Telford. This book provides comprehensive guidelines for the filling of voids for both soft ground and rock tunnels and shafts. The underground construction industry will find these guidelines useful for minimizing misunderstandings related to backfilling and contact grouting terms and methods; improving the quality of contract documents related to backfilling and contact grouting and the in-place material; reducing costs and schedule time; and avoiding or minimizing potential claims. Coverage includes: geological conditions; structural and operational requirements on the completed facility; backfilling and contact grouting for various types of ground support and lining; grout material; grout properties; backfilling methods; backfill mix designs; contact grouting; equipment; record keeping; quality control; and contract documents. These guidelines were prepared by the AUA Technical Committee on Backfilling and Contact Grouting of Tunnels and Shafts. The committee includes a wide range of experts representing engineering firms, contactors, equipment and material suppliers, and consultants.
