Wij leven immers volgens de klok & de kalender, en we stellen onze ‘klok-uren’ ter beschikking van een werkgever om een loon te kunnen verdienen, zonder dat we controle hebben over hoe onze tijd zélf wordt gewaardeerd. Altijd maar sneller werken, méér uren die als ‘werkuren’ worden aanzien en de vervaging tussen werktijd en privétijd (o.m. door het internet en bijhorende technologie om thuis te kunnen werken, alsook het altijd bereikbaar willen zijn) maakt dat “being busy” een soort statussymbool is geworden, maar we worden er niet gelukkiger van. De verschillende essays in deze bundel gaan o.m. over anders leren denken over tijd en over hoe minder uren spenderen aan het werk ook ten goede kan komen aan de gendergelijkheid.
