Abstract

This publication contains the abstracts of 20 papers, the majority of which were presented at the International Workshop on Limit State Design in Geotechnical Engineering Practice (LSD2003). The complete contributions are available in the accompanying CD-ROM (special lecture not included). The topics covered include: performance-based and limit state design philosophies; issues arising from the implementation of limit state design codes; elaborations of "measured values", "derived values" and "characteristic values"; reliability-based methodologies for analytical calibration of partial factors

Abstract

This proceedings, Risk-Based Corrective Action and Brownfields Restoration, contains papers presented at sessions sponsored by the Geo-Institute of ASCE in conjunction with the ASCE Annual Convention held in Boston, Massachusetts, October 18-21, 1998. These papers describe the tools and methods employed in risk-based corrective action, and provide illustrative examples through case histories with an emphasis on Brownfields restoration. This proceedings provides practioners with an introduction to the concepts that are employed and the lessons that have been learned by others.

Abstract

Sponsored by the Geo-Institute of ASCE. Geotechnical Safety and Reliability contains 21 peer-reviewed papers assembled in honor of Wilson H. Tang, Ph.D., P.E., S.E. Tang was a pioneer and a prominent leader in the field of engineering uncertainties and reliability analysis. His work extended well beyond the geotechnical realm, encompassing problems in codified design in structural engineering, risk assessment in hydraulic systems, and reliability of transportation systems. The papers in this Geotechnical Special Publication cover a broad range of geotechnical topics, including site exploration; uncertainty characterization and model calibration; reliability methods; reliability of foundations; Bayesian updating; risk assessment; and monitoring and quality assurance. GSP 286 will be of interest to geotechnical researchers and practitioners working in all areas of geotechnical risk assessment.
