Abstract

Le manuel explique les dispositions de la Convention européenne des droits de l'homme concernant la liberté de pensée, de conscience et de religion. Il décrit les concepts clés de la jurisprudence de la Cour européenne des droits de l'homme et examine la distribution des rôles et des responsabilités entre l'État et les citoyens. La question centrale est celle du port de symboles religieux dans les lieux publics. L'auteur commence par faire le point sur certains aspects fondamentaux tels que la " visibilité " des religions et des croyances dans la sphère publique et la notion de " port de symboles religieux ". Il énumère ensuite les questions essentielles à examiner par les pouvoirs publics avant de prendre des mesures concernant le port de symboles religieux. Enfin, le manuel tente d'appliquer les principes énoncés à certains domaines clés tels que la fonction publique, les écoles et les universités, le secteur privé et le système judiciaire.
