This book's 50 chapters explore the topics of landscape management and ecology. The main issues investigated here include urban park design, recreation areas, active green spaces, cultural landscape, green urbanism, protected areas, residential gardens, landscape ecology, bioclimatic comfort, ecovillages, and urban transformation, among others. The volume will appeal to both researchers and local authorities, and will also be of great interest to academics, teachers, students and staff in the social science departments.

Of the world's seven continents, Asia is the largest. Its physical landscapes, political units, and ethnic groups are both wide-ranging and many. Southwest, South and Middle Asia are highly populated regions which, as a whole, cover an extremely large area of varied geography. In total, this domain is unique in its plant diversity and large vegetation zones with different communities and biomes. It is rich in endemics, with specific and intraspecific diversity of fruit trees and medicinal plants, including a number of rare, high value, species. At the same time, much of the land in the region is too dry or too rugged, with many geographical extremes. Overgrazing, oil and mineral extraction, and poaching are the major threats in the area. This two-volume project focuses on the dynamic biodiversity of the region with in-depth analysis on phytosociology, plants, animals and agroecology. There are also chapters that explore new applications as well as approaches to overcome problems associated with climate change. Much of the research and analysis are presented here for the first time. We believe this work is a valuable resource for professionals and researchers working in the fields of plant diversity and vegetation, animal diversity and animal populations, and geo-diversity and sustainable land use, among others. The first volume guides our readers to West Asia and the Caucasus region, while volume two focuses on issues unique to South and Middle Asia.

This comprehensive work provides insight into problems related to ecosystem fragmentation, health and well-being of high-altitude ecosystems, ecosystem services for food and medicine, and the issue of invasive alien species. This research has been collected by the world's most respected experts in climate change and ecology from Turkey, Pakistan, South America, Malaysia, Nepal, Kirgizistan, Kazakistan, Georgia, Russia, Macedonia, Indonesia, and North America. These experts discuss ecosystem health and productivity, climate change, threats to high-altitude ecosystems, soils, and other limiting environmental factors at high altitudes. The data presented here covers some of the most important mountain ranges in the world, including the Himalayas, Andes, Altai, Tien-Shan, and Caucasus. Climate Change Impacts on High-Altitude Ecosystems focuses on improving our understanding on the effects of climate change on biodiversity and provides insight to young researchers on these fragile ecosystems for their future evaluation.

The Mediterranean Basin is the largest of the five Mediterranean-climate regions, and one of the largest archipelagos in the world. The basin is located at the intersection of two major landmasses, Eurasia and Africa; and has around five thousand islands, which contribute much to its high diversity and spectacular scenery. It possesses higher salinity than the Atlantic. The shores are chiefly mountainous. Earthquakes and volcanic disturbances are frequent. Some of the most ancient civiliz...

The environment in ecological systems includes both physical parameters and biotic attributes, and is a holocoenotic, dynamically interlinked system. Its investigation requires a dialectical approach which examines the different parts, but integrates the organism and the environment into a dynamic whole. Environment and ecology place emphasis on the real world. Many decisions that directly or indirectly affect the balance of our environment are based on individual, community, state, national ...

As humans we have stewardship over the environment. Man's dominion does not mean a license to abuse, spoil, squander or destroy. Future cultures will be able to reach their potential only if this generation remembers that sustainable land use is a combination of economics, ecology and social justice. Our ancestors survived due to an innate sense of ""oneness"" whereby they helped each other. For them everything was ""holy"". Sustaining desired ecological, economic, and social conditions in the sy...
