This proceedings, Coastal Engineering 1998, contains 280 papers presented at the 26th International Conference on Coastal Engineering which was held in Copenhagen, Denmark, June 22-26, 1998. The proceedings is divided into five parts: 1) characteristics of coastal waves and currents; 32) long waves and storm surges; 3) coastal structures; 4) coastal processes and sediment transport; and 5) coastal, estuarine and environmental problems. The individual papers include such topics as the effects of wind, waves, storms and currents as well as the study of sedimentation, erosion, and beach nourishment. Special emphasis is given to case studies of completed engineering projects. With the inclusion of both theoretical and practical information, these papers provide the civil engineer and professionals in related fields with a broad range of information on coastal engineering and coastal processes affecting design and operations in the coastal zone.

Proceedings of the 27th International Conference on Coastal Engineering, held in Sydney, Australia, July 16-21, 2000. This collection contains 309 papers presenting a broad range of information on coastal engineering and coastal processes affecting design and operations in the coastal zone. With the inclusion of both theoretical and practical information, these papers address issues in five areas: characteristics of coastal waves and currents; long period waves, storm surges, and wave groups; coastal structures; coastal processes and sediment transport; and coastal, estuarine, and environmental problems. Topics include the effects of wind, waves, storms, and currents as well as the study of sedimentation, erosion, and beach nourishment. Case studies of completed engineering projects and keynote addresses are also presented.

These proceedings of the Eighteenth Coastal Engineering Conference held in Cape Town, Republic of South Africa, November 14-19, 1982 include the 167 papers presented at the conference. The proceedings are divided into 5 major subject areas. Part I, theoretical and observed wave characteristics, includes discussions on wave height distribution, waves in nearshore zones, tide predictions, wave energy conversion and wind effects. Part II, covers aspects of coastal sediment problems such as sediment transport, shore protection, beach profile changes, and beach erosion. Part III, coastal structures and related problems, covers construction, monitoring and performance of different coastal and offshore structures. Coastal, estuarine, and environmental problems are addressed in Part IV, including design of coastal water intakes, salinity intrusion, ocean outfalls, and environmental effects of construction. The final section covers ship motion response.

Solving engineering problems associated with coastal and offshore areas is one of the most important environmental challenges we face. The many natural resources in these regions require careful management based on sound scientific and technical information. 219 papers are included in this publication providing in depth state-of-the-art reviews, and current research and practices in coastal engineering. The five main divisions of coastal engineering presented here are: (1) Theoretical and observed wave characteristics; (2) coastal processes and sediment transport; (3) coastal structures and related problems; (4) coastal, estuarine and environmental problems; and (5) ship motions.
