Although general knowledge of disability has progressed considerably in recent years, many challenges remain and require greater attention. Among these challenges, invisible disabilities present particular challenges. Indeed, 80 per cent of disabilities are invisible, while society continues to associate disability with representations such as people in wheelchairs. This invisibility complicates the recognition of disability, which is essential if people are to obtain certain forms of assistance. What is more, this invisibility reinforces the taboo nature of disability, encouraging some people to conceal their difficulties. This invisibility also prevents those close to people with disabilities from understanding the need for support, both in their private and professional lives. In this thesis, we first explore the existing literature on managing disability-related diversity in companies, focusing on invisible disabilities and social economy companies. We also looked at the concept of reasonable accommodation in the Belgian legislation. In addition, we looked at the difficulty of recognising disability in Belgium and the aid available as a result. Secondly, this information was then compared with data gathered during our interviews with social economy federations, disability experts and managers of people with invisible disabilities in companies. We also compared the management of invisible disabilities between adapted work companies, other social enterprises and traditional companies. This research has enabled us to take stock of the support given to people with invisible disabilities in companies, particularly in social enterprises. It has also led to the formulation of a number of suggestions for improving the monitoring of workers with invisible disabilities, and to a glimpse of the future.

Besides Islamic Finance that continuously evolve and invent innovative products, discrete and shy organizations belong to the large sphere of Islamic Economics. Studying these latter can help with identifying key features that allow them to advocate for a different economy. However, research is focused on Islamic Finance, and Islamic Economics often isolated from economic paradigm-shift studies. The main objective of this qualitative study is to discover organizational features that are inspired from Islamic Economics’ principles and allow social innovation. We proceeded to a thematical analysis on secondary data that concerns two historical cases, as well as two scripts of interviews with two other contemporary organizations. The analysis revealed that for each organization several Islamic Principles are co-centric, that they can be considered as socially innovative mainly because they still have great potential to solve social problems, they’re driven by cultural reclamation and a motivation to change the abusive economic system. The findings suggest that Islamic Economics and Social Innovation are two research fields that can be bridged, and that these organizations can be of precious inspiration to social entrepreneurs.

This project-thesis provides an implementation solution for an "entrepreneurial activity test structure" accessible to students entrepreneurs incubated in the VentureLab. Moreover, it evaluates theoretically and empirically the effects this structure can have on the students' entrepreneurial process. An "entrepreneurial activity test structure" is an organization allowing would-be entrepreneurs to assess the feasibility of their project by testing their Business Model hypotheses before starting any administrative procedures concerning the legal status. The objective of this project is to encourage students to engage into an entrepreneurial process. In order to assess the effects on the students' entrepreneurial process, two theories have been consulted: the entrepreneurial commitment principle developed by Bruyat and the effectuation principle developed by Sarasvathy. The literature has shown two positive outcomes: On the one hand, this structure could reduce the perceived risk of irreversibility because it makes it possible to come back to the initial status without any significant constraint, in case of inconclusive test. Thus, the structure might counter the reluctance to change of future entrepreneurs. On the other hand, this structure could allow students entrepreneurs to develop their project incrementally on a trial and error basis. This method follows market contingencies and seems particularly suited to the development of a project. The final selected solution is a partnership with a current "activity cooperative" called StepBySteppes. This thesis provides details about the defined incubation modalities and about best practices in order to promote a successful project outcome.

The purpose of this thesis consists in highlighting the motivations that encourage individuals to start on the path of social entrepreneurship. We noticed that, nowadays, people want to experiment a lot of different jobs. Indeed, on average, the actual generation moves and changes of occupation every three or five years. To get a better understanding of our reflexion, this thesis is built in three parts. First, in the entire population, we look at individuals who want to change their work-life and leave their job to find another one which better matches their values. Then, we focus our analysis on people who move towards entrepreneurship. Finally, we only take into account individuals who have become social entrepreneurs. This study is carried through a qualitative method based on “life story theory” and on the professional careers of eight social entrepreneurs. Four conclusions are exposed in this work: motivations are considered as causes or consequences, motivations are based on personal or social interest, motivations are influenced by external factors which ease the creation and motivations need maturity to be effective. This master thesis does not bring up new theories but make a summary of existing theories on the subject of social entrepreneurs’ motivations and makes a comparison between these theories and the results analysed in the practical part. Social entrepreneurship is the new trend of the last years and our work wants to bring to the fore this concept and maybe give the motivation to other people to join the procedure.

Return on capital is a concept classically understood in economic literature through financial lens. Given the dual nature of the relationship that exists between investors and cooperatives as well as the strong work-ethic which characterizes the cooperative movement, this paper proposes to look at this concept in a broaden manner. In addition to financial return on capital, we extend the notion of return to two additional factors : transactional and « citizen » returns. In doing so, this paper aims to highlight the triple facet of the notion of return on capital within the cooperative context. It opens the door to new analytical frameworks that make it possible to value the true performance of cooperatives across these three dimensions, which may become particularly relevant to citizen investors. Indeed, this analytical progress is expected to generate positive returns in terms of matching cooperative projects with citizens capital.
