Building on the extensive interest in company law and corporate governance development in post-communist transformation, this book examines the legal regime for protection of company investors in the CIS. The different contributions focus on issues such as basic shareholder rights, shareholder rights in special circumstances, cumulative voting, and protection through securities markets regulation. The discussion centers on the problems of domestic legal reform and the extent to which international legal standards and best practice are reflected in the process. In doing so, it offers a thorough comparative law analysis covering all twelve CIS countries. Importantly, the book accords a special place to the contribution that the model legislation adopted within the CIS framework makes to the process of legal reform and voluntary legal harmonization.

"The Ukrainian crisis presented the gravest threat to peace and stability in Europe since the Second World War. The crisis attracted much international attention, yet little is known about how and why the EU and Russia ended up 'competing' over Ukraine. The authors unravel the deeper origins of the crisis by adopting a long-term perspective to the 'integration offers' presented to Ukraine by Russia and the EU and the choices made by Ukraine's leaders. They analyse these choices showing the key role of Ukraine's political regime in interpreting and balancing between the offers made to Ukraine. The book provides a succinct and accessible study of the complex background and multiple dimensions of the crisis, while also dispelling prevailing oversimplifications and misinterpretations. It explores the key implications of the crisis for Ukraine's interactions with the EU and Russia"--

In this well-researched and detailed book, the authors provide an extensive and critical analysis of post-Soviet regional integration. The contributors seek to explain this puzzling and politically significant development by examining the ECU's origins, institutional architecture, key driving forces and emerging implications. Their investigation reveals that the ECU is an ambitious and
