Maria Deraismes was one of the pioneers in developing a broad doctrine of protofeminism. She was not the only one. But it was she who, for the first time, thought that this fight should be led on all fronts: education, justice, speech, politics, and religion. This book includes a play to be read or performed in order to restore body and voice to this tremendous orator, to her life, and to her doubts, an alphabet book to meditate on a few thoughts that have not aged at all, and finally a brief biography in order to understand how a mischievous and curious young woman with “great potential” would become the woman who would alter the course of her times. Not only do her modern ideas come from the feminist struggle, but also from the notion of becoming Human, beyond the feminine or masculine principle, to attain real equality. In this, she was a trailblazer, and it is up to us to continue this slow evolution.
